Dr. Leticia Spinelli
About my medical journey
Since childhood, I knew I wanted to be a medical doctor. I am the only one in my family to have pursued this path, but it was always clear to me that it was my calling. After being accepted into four prestigious medical schools in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at the age of 17 years old, I ultimately chose to attend and graduate from the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) in 2000. During the six-year medical school program, I became passionate about medical dermatology and the skin manifestations of systemic diseases.
After graduating as a medical doctor in 2000, I completed a two-year Dermatology post-graduate training program at the internationally renowned Dermatology Institute Prof. Rubem David Azulay, at Santa Casa de Misericordia do Rio de Janeiro. Throughout my post-graduation, I have been selected to participate in two prestigious scholarship programs: the American Academy of Dermatology Visiting Resident's Scholarship at the University of Texas in Houston in 2003, and the International Society of Dermatology Scholarship at the San Gallicano Institute in Rome, Italy in 2004.
In 2003, after passing the Board exam of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD), I joined Prof. R. D. Azulay's dermatology team at his private practice and became a clinical instructor in his Dermatology post-graduation program. Additionally, I contributed to clinical research, participated in the scientific review of internal medicine and dermatology literature, and authored scientific articles and chapters in dermatology books.
I served in the Brazilian Air Force as a Second Lieutenant physician-dermatologist between 2007 and 2008, when I moved to Brasilia, Brazil's Capital city. I continued practicing cosmetic and medical dermatology until 2016 in my private practice, gaining valuable experience in aesthetic injections, and cosmetic and medical Dermatology throughout my career in Brazil. In 2016, I moved to Vancouver, Canada, with my family to pursue further education, completing a Master of Administrative Science (MAS) program at Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) Vancouver campus in 2017.
Finally, in 2023, I became a licensed, board-certified naturopathic doctor in the province of British Columbia after completing four years of naturopathic medical training at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) Vancouver campus, a CNME-accredited institution, to continue dedicating myself to the art of medicine.
With 13 years of clinical practice as a Brazilian Board-Certified Dermatologist, I have extensive experience in the Aesthetic and Dermatology fields. My practice in Brazil primarily focused on cosmetic injections (Toxin -"Botox, Dysport and Xeomin", and Fillers - hyaluronic acid fillers, bio stimulators -"Sculptra, Radiesse"), lasers, minor surgery, pharmaceutical and medical-grade skincare and treatments for various skin conditions.
I continuously dedicate my time to professional development, attending courses and conferences, to improve my skills in the fields of naturopathic medicine, and aesthetic and integrative dermatology.
